Azurite is a very popular mineral because of its unparalleled deep blue color. The name azurite comes from its beautiful blue color (azul means blue in Arabic). The ancient Egyptians used it as a make-up for the eyes, dyes and paints for centuries.

Azurite occurs as elongated or tabular prismatic crystals exhibiting various shades of transparent to translucent azure blue with a vitreous luster. Crystals are often intergrown or grouped in radiating aggregates and also occur as granular or concretionary masses. Azurite often forms sharp crystals.

Azurite is soft and cleaves easily, hence care should be used when wearing Azurite jewelry as it is not durable enough for every day wear.
