PRESS RELEASE "Earth Treasures", the Lincoln Gem and Mineral Club’s 45th Annual Show, will offer something for everyone in the family. The show will be held at Pershing Center on Saturday, March 29, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday March 30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission: Adults - $4.00, Children under 12 - free with Adult Alongside of the many educational exhibits, vendors will be offering everything from collectible mineral specimens to custom jewelry to hobby supplies and equipment. Ongoing during the show will be live demonstrations by artists who are always willing to share tips and answer questions. An artist of special interest is W Morgan Norris, of Blackwell OK, a master carver of stone, including petrified wood and dinosaur bone, and gemstones such as Jade, Lapis Lazuli and Ruby Ziosite. This artist draws his inspiration from nature. His subjects include wild animals and plant forms as well as human subjects; in particular, Native American Chiefs. Unique to his style is his technique, which preserves the outside matrix of the stone, which encases the three-dimensional sculpture. Mr. Norris enjoys conversing with the public while demonstrating his craft during the show, and is able to complete a carving during the two-day show. The show’s educational seminars include such topics as: Mammoths in Nebraska; Fossil Wood Adventures; The Dos and Don’ts of Collecting Rocks, Fossils, and Artifacts in National Parks; and Identifying Gems, Real and Fake. As in years’ past, children will enjoy the displays of fossils and petrified wood, and the always popular, hands-on gem dig. For more information visit our web
