Goshenite

Beryl - BE3Al2Si6O18

As you can see from the pictures, Goshenite is a rare colorless form of beryl and called the "mother of gemstones". Impurities in the stone creates all the well known beryls such as emeralds, a green beryl, heliodor a a yellow beryl, morganite, a pink beryl and aquamarine, a blue beryl.

Goshenite is a popular substitute for diamonds by placing silver or green-coloured metal foil behind a cut goshenite gemstone, then placing the stone in a closed setting so that the foil cannot be detected. Goshenite is a hard mineral but is brittle so care must be taken when handling it.
