Pyrrhotite is a bronze-yellow to bronze-red mineral that tarnishes easily and is somewhat magnetic similar to magnetite. Although a weakly magnetic mineral, a property which is important in distinguishing it from other minerals that have a similar appearance. Not all specimens will show evidence of magnetism but will have enough to move a compass needle. Good crystals are rare and should be treasured because it is a very unusual mineral.
