Topaz comes in many colors such as blue, yellow, pink, brown, green and clear. It is usually transparent but can also be in different grades of translucently. Topaz is the hardest silicate mineral being one of the hardest minerals in nature with an 8 on Moh’s scale of hardness.

Protect Topaz from large temperature changes because this can change it’s color. Natural pink topaz is rare, but brown topaz can be heat treated to become topaz and dramatically increase it’s price.

When buying topaz use a reputable dealers because other minerals can be used to mimick topaz when they are not such as orange brown quartz, smokey obsidian or citrine. Buyer beware!
