Tourmaline is known to be the
most colorful gemstone known to man and for a long time has been
called “Rainbow Gem” by mineral collectors for good
reason. All the colors of the rainbow and more are seen in its
extraordinary ranges. Many crystals come as a mixture of colors,
for example the watermelon crystals, where the inside of the prism
is red and the outside is green. On the other hand, you also get
crystals that changes color from the one end to the other end,
which are usually cut in a square form.
Tourmaline has a hardness of 7.5 on the Moh’s scale which
means it is hard enough to be cut in all the shapes and styles
available; from precious gems, carved figures or sliced cross
sections for collectors
